Hello everyone. I'm back from Christmas break and thought I'd share a cool witchy experience.
This past weekend, I took the time to meditate with some trees that grow in my yard. These three maples have seen me grow up, and coincidentally, grow together in a circle. I gave them names a while back just for fun, but I couldn't remember them. So, I decided to ask them what their names were. A flurry of names rushed through my mind, and the ones that stood out to me were Soren, Melchior, and Archimedes. The funny thing is, all of these names belong to historical figures, two of them being famed men of wit. I brought it up to my friend today, who is a green witch, and he suggested they could be dryads. Thoughts?
That is so cool
gosh, I have always loved learning about dryads, admittedly, only from the view point of them as myth. But I'm wondering if I believe in spirits or deities myself. I don feel so connected to trees, so so connected. I think if I could be around them more, that I would start to believe in dryads myself.
i do feel connected. there was a typo lol.
How exciting! @HellenicVirgo if you feel comfortable sharing any updates on how things are going with these dryads or if you find out anything new about them in the future I'm so interested.
I also communicate with trees in my practice, but I have always thought that I had been communicating with the tree's spirit itself, and not a dryad which (I might be totally wrong) are separate beings who live inside trees? The distinction probably doesn't matter but I was wondering what other people's experiences have been with them have been?
Side note: Often when I address a certain tree as "wise tree spirit" or some other such title with "tree" in the name I feel as though I am being frowned upon until I change gears to something more like "mother spirit". As though calling them just tree spirit is not enough(?). That is what my perception has been anyways.
This one tree in particular has been kind of taking the time to guide me on the path of witchcraft and spiritual matters, so maybe that's why she cares? Any other tree I sit with doesn't really seem to mind as long as I am respectful, it feels like they just appreciate the company.
Does any of that make sense? 😅
Honestly when I "talk" with trees I'm kind of making it up as I go, and I'm so curious to learn about how other people work with them! It's so nice to meet other people who are experiencing similar things!
Actually, I'm really curious about this as well, and was just about to ask a question about this!
I have done lots of research in the past about the fae folk, including dryads. I have only recently started practicing witchcraft, but now, after two months, I'm starting to experience what I call 'flash-emotion' when I brush near or touch certain plants.
What I mean is that some plants 'call out' to me and I am attracted to go near, and when I touch the leaves a sudden rush of emotion comes over me, such as 'nurturing, mother love' or 'come play'. Some plants or trees, when I pass them, give me this strong 'GO AWAY' feeling. I don't know if these are dryads, or tree spirits? There is a particular plant in my garden (a cycad) that gets sad when I leave and always tries to call me closer to 'baby' it and love it.
But, the reason I nickname it 'flash-emotion' is because it happens in a split-second. No amount of standing and touching a leaf will elaborate the first impression, except now I am getting better for my cycad at understanding it.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
"Flash emotion" is such a good way to describe it! I agree, I think certain plants have different personalities and desires.
I haven't had the flash emotion experience but I occasionally have plants that 'talk' to me when they need something. The first time I noticed it a plant was yelling at me for water.
@LavenderHazelwood That kind of sounds similar to something I heard Susun Weed say in one of her youtube videos, she like heard some nettle plants asking her to move them, and after she dug them up and brought them to her yard their previous spot was bulldozed over a few days later. I looked through her youtube channel trying to find the video so I could link it but I think she may have deleted it.
Is it like, the words of what the plant is trying to say manifest in your head and you "hear" it that way?
