Hi everyone I just have some thoughts here in my experience with asian vs western correspondents in witchcraft.
Olivia talks about how jasmine is used for love spells a lot and I fully agree. It's such a nice scent commonly associated with the feminine divine. But in Indonesia where I am from, jasmine represents both love and abundance in life but also death, since it is sprinkled over graves during funerals. The smell of jasmine at night is also thought to be a a sign of a spirit present, and so jasmine perfumes are not often sold in Indonesia because of the association with death. In Bali, jasmine is also associated with the divine and connecting to the divine. So you will see jasmine incense being used as offerings. Jasmine is known to attract spirits (usually good ones).
they have almost exactly similar corresponding to Jasmine in Indonesian & other SEAsian cultures and it is often used sprinkled over graves in non-muslim burials or used as offerings for deities/ancestors in temples in Javanese animism and balinese hinduism. In Bali, it is thought that white frangipani trees host spirits, and so the smell of frangipani is deeply spiritual and attracts spirits.
Naga champa incense (very popular type of incense) is a combination incense of frangipani and sandalwood, and so you will reap the benefits of both. Any incense with the name "champa" in it is a sign of the use of frangipani.
Sandalwood is thought to be very purifying of bad energy and spiritually empowering by buddhist monks and Chinese taoists & ancestor worshippers. So this type of incense is seen burning in those type of temples often. If not for meditation, as offerings to spirits and deities. I use sandalwood for consecration as well as occasionally cleansing (though I prefer sage) and occasionally as spirit work to attract spirits.
