Hello everybody!
I'm VERY new to the world of witchy business.
I'm from Italy but I am now living in Aotearoa New Zealand. Nature here it's amazing and it's been a very good place to start learning about the unique botanical habitat. Over 80% of the plants growing in New Zealand are natives to this amazing place. This also mean that it's a bit more difficult to find advice and guidance on magickal uses of herbs apart from their usual nutritional and medicinal value.
For now I've really just literally made it up. Apart from studying medicinal and traditional uses from my friend's botany books I've just used plants that I've always felt more familiar with and kinda know where they grow and I am sure that I can recognize.
For example I do own a traditional Pounamu, jade necklace, that I like to charge with my good intentions for the day in the morning and to clear it at night I like to burn some incense into a pot with fresh manuka and kanuka, which have medical uses that are NOT correlated to good intentions, and leave my necklace in there with the incence and the manuka overnight to "cleanse".
Now. I literally made it up. I felt like it was a somewhat good idea to do it like that. But apart from knowing that it helps with kidney and urinary problems, fevers, diarrhoea, digestive problems, colics, chest congestions etc, I really don't know what are the "spiritual"uses of it. I guess in someway it's kinda like a cleanser... but...you know.
If anyone from Aotearoa would like to share with me their knowledge on the spiritual significance of native plans would be awsome!
Thanks everybody,
be well and stay safe.
Actually here it is my lil manuka jar, the lil golden candle was used at my birthday last year by best friend, which is like a sister to me, and it was my first birthday in New Zealand. I saw that as a bit of a rebirth. So I thought it would have been nice to use that too.
Hey KiwiChiara,
I have started looking into traditional Maori uses for plants and herbs. I am not sure if its exactly what your looking for but I have found some amazing books, on Maori herbal medicines and different uses for tree leaves, at my local library. I hope this helps.
