Closet witch here - I grew up Catholic and one of my sisters (who sees witchcraft as the work of the devil) seriously considered becoming a nun for a while. As a Christian witch myself I absolutely believe both religion/practices can be practiced and observed together, despite what some on both sides think. That said though I would caution any leader of the church or a coven, it is important to remember you’re not only advancing your own spiritual journey by taking on said position, but you are also a role model for other believers and charged with helping them grow in their spiritual journey as well - that's the real conflict. It may be right for you yourself as a Christian witch to grow spiritually by taking on a leadership position like that to be more involved spiritually, but for the followers of that religion/practice who now look up to you for spiritual guidance (guidance based purely on that singular faith) it can be a disservice or heresy and I think this is more important when considering the question. I say this based on the leadership philosophy I hold, servant leadership - that a leader of anything church, state, job, etc., is there to serve the people under them foremost. Again I grew up Catholic, so when you say priesthood I assume you mean church leadership as opposed to coven leadership. Much of Christianity doesn't see eye to eye with witchcraft, whereas practitioners of witchcraft are significantly more understanding of people following their own unique path in beliefs. If you are able to dutifully serve the people of that faith in the priesthood as their teachings call for, then go for it if you feel called. If being a Christian witch takes away from the spiritual fullness required by that faith to serve its people, then I would recommend looking into other ways to fulfill this spiritual calling of yours. Sorry for the longwinded response, but these are my thoughts - this is a very interesting crossroads you find yourself at and I would love to hear yours and others thoughts and considerations! Best wishes to you on your path, whichever direction it takes you!
Why not?
