Not really a question, more of a rant. I just went to my local library and the amount of new age witchy books is disheartening. The ones they do have are old as heck and/or ginormous tomes which although potentially full of information, extremely impractical.
It might be due to the fact that I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and therefore there are more French books than English? But even the French ones are less than enticing. I know for a fact my high school had more new age books than the library in the town I now live in.
Is anybody else annoyed with their library’s selection? Or am I the only unlucky one?
You can always request new books for your library. I just filled out a form online for The House Witch by Arin Murphy-Hiscock. I'm just waiting now for the library to review and purchase it, and then I can read it. There are a bunch of "new" books on witchcraft you could let your library know about and which ones you would like them to get :)
At least be happy you have any at all. I come from a small pretty Chistian town. So any books on the topic are almost entirely fiction. Thank the spirits we have the internet.
Haha, I live in a town with almost 40,000 inhabitants in northeastern Finland, this is pretty much all-white, all-Christian, all-racist, all-terrible place when it comes to the people. The nature, I love, and that's why I haven't left.
The library is a surprise. It actually has a few books of Scott Cunningham, some about astrology, some about the Tarot, even. And I found the Eddas, too!
Unsure about Canadian libraries, but in the U.S. we have something called the inner library borrowing system where if you ask your librarian for a specific book they will borrow it from another library. I live in a tiny rural bible belt town so no decent occult books. The last book I borrowed, Encyclopedia of witchcraft by Judika Isles, was sent from a library an entire state over. I research books I wanna read from Amazon, YouTube, and Goodreads. I then borrow the book and make copies of it or if it's a great reference book I then purchase it from Amazon. Hope this helps. Blessed be.
Libraries are there to serve the community, so many will have a suggestions box. If you feel comfortable, you can also consider talking with a librarian directly. Many of them will be more than happy to consider your needs as a member of the community. Hope this helps.
