Hi yall. I got a fermentation-kit by a friend of mine the other day and this fermenting-thingy is for me a whole new world to explore.
This got me really excited and the first thing that popped up in my head was - wouldn’t it be fun to mix it with kitchen magick?? I mean.. you could work together with the moonphases and all.
How would you guys use this method with witchcraft and have you done it? Any tips and ideas?
Just thinking of all those magickally powerful Kimchi’s I can make haha.
Hi Madeleine! I'm excited for your fermentation experiments, I think the craft is very interesting! For my job I make mead, which is made from fermented honey and is a very ancient alcoholic beverage! It's very fun and easy to make different wines through fermenting fruit and/or honey, and each fruit and the subsequent wine will have a slightly different magical connotation, depending on the fruit and spices you use, so I highly recommend making some wine! You can also make fermented teas such as Ivan tea, made from fireweed which grows wildly in North America and most of Europe from late june to the end of august. Aside from that, sourdough starters are as handy and delicious as they are powerful, bread is the cornerstone of civilization after all, and the more you tend to your sourdough, the more nourishing the bread, both literally and spiritually (at least that's been my experience). You can also mix in different herbs and spices to your sourdough (but not the starter), to suit your intentions and taste! Lastly I'll recommend wax dipped fermented figs, which are very fun to make and very good as well! You simply take some figs (or plums as they're in season now) and dip them in melted wax, making sure they're completely covered in a thick layer (you'll probably need to dip 3-4 times) and then let the fruit inside ferment for about 2 weeks! Cut open and enjoy, disposing of or melting and reusing the wax shells! If the wax breaks or the fruit smells off though I wouldn't recommend eating it. I hope you have lots of fun! 0
