This past Beltane, I decided to make something I used to make with my grandmother all the time when I was in elementary. And that is Beer Bread! Beer bread is a really simple bread recipe, and the alcohol burns off in the oven, so it's really good for anyone of all ages! You can mix and match whatever you want to add in to enhance the flavour and the magick! You can even make it vegan!
The Dough:
One 12 ounce bottle/can of beer
3 cups self-rising flour (or use the ratio 1c. flour - 1tsp baking soda - 1/2 tsp salt)
1/3 cup of sugar
Seasonings of choice
My favourite seasonings are pretty simple! (And here are some common correspondences)
Cheese - for joy, health, and manifestation
Parsley - for protection, communication, and spirit
Basil - for happiness, harmony, and love
Onion powder - for protection
Garlic powder - for strength, protection, passion
What To Do:
Mix flour and sugar
Mix in your seasonings (and cheese, if you chose to add it)
Pour beer in slowly (it's gonna bubble a ton, so use a large bowl)
Mix with a wooden spoon, then your hands (it'll be sticky!)
Butter your bread pan
Pick up the dough and plop it into your pan. Try to smooth it out on top
Pop it in the oven at 350F for about 60-70 minutes
Butter the top at about 10 minutes left on the clock
(Cheesie babies!! Add cheese on top of your loaf after you butter the top!! Trust me!!)
And there's the perfect bread for any occasion!. Remember if you are under legal drinking age in your area of the world to ask an adult to purchase the beer. Some grocery stores carry non-alcoholic beer, which I'm sure will do the trick as well!
Happy Baking, kitchen witchies!
