Hello everyone, I am a newer witch but do not work with Deities. I am on the journey to find a spirit guide/animal to work with. I am not against a deity if they appear, but I have never been connected to gods. I have always been majorly connected to animals. At the age of 5 I was able to pet and approach a dog who was frighted of children and helped cure his fear unknowingly. My question is what do you do for offerings? It seems pretty straight forward with a deity as you are able to understand what they like, but when I am starting to find a spirit guide what are things to offer in the process?
Thank you.
Hi! I don't use deity in my work, either (at least not 'til now, am keeping my mind open to the possibility). I'm kind of shooting in the dark here. but I'd suspect that spirit animals -- at least those that are like, or derived from, earthly animals -- would be fond of some of the same things. I'd suggest not doing a whole lot with offerings until you've found a real affinity for a specific spirit animal guide (or guides) and then try leaving or having something akin to those things that are normally associated with their earthly/mundane counterparts. (For example, grow some catnip; for something like a deer or antelope, a block of rock salt like a salt lick; for for a bear spirit, a berry bush, etc.) I'd be a little worried about leaving something that might be misconstrued as "bait" for a specific type of spirit instead of making an offering appropriate for a spirit I feel a connection with. Also, if you're leaving anything organic out & about, please keep in mind that you might also attract mundane creatures you might not want to share you space with! <8-o
And now that I think about it, although I don't work with the fae I'm pretty sure that anyone who does will caution you about the pitfalls of accidentally leaving them gifts that they accept...
