@Mars (Ruth) I call my self pagan . So what I personally believe is that there is a higher power/force and we uses gods and goddesses to describe different aspects of the higher power/force. I don't think it is male or female . I think it just has masculine and feminine aspects . I think we personify the higher power/force as god or goddess to help us relate better to it. Almost how we use the words happy, sad, mad....ect to describe emotions. I think we live out many lives some here some other places. When we die I think we go into are next life. And we keep doing this until we have learned what we need to. After that I think we become one with the higher power/force. because we can create energy but we can't destroy energy. I don't think we will perceive things as we do here in the physical. and maybe we get the option to go around again . this is where I'm at in my belief system rate now. Hope this helps you.
In Wicca you might see a term called the Summerlands so that might be worth a google if interested It's basically a resting stop between incarnations. Other Pagan religions have different words and ideas and it varies widely. Personallyy I frankly don't know. I believe that there is an afterlife but as to the details I am not sure. I plan on figuring it out when I die lol!
Years ago, my sister (who, to the best of my knowledge, is not a practitioner of the Craft) said she found an answer she liked in a story where, when asked the same question, a Norseman (as the story apparently called him) said that life was like a bird flying through the great hall; he could see it and know it as it flew through the hall, but could know nothing of the bird before it few in or after it flew back out aside from it being somewhere... I always thought that was a pretty good answer, myself. :-)
