Exactly what I was going to say... They look exactly like the cards from an "Are You Psychic?" game one of my friends had back in junior high, and the patterns are the same as those on larger, less decorative cards a couple of Psych majors I knew were using in college for what they called "ESP experimentation."
I believe those cards are used as an exercise for developing/testing one's psychic abilities, ESP.
