Hey, everyone !
Since I'm fairly new to witchcraft, I'm seeking advices from fellow witches.
Recently, I found some pdf books on witchcraft and learned so much interesting information. I thought it was maybe a good time to start a grimoire to store all this information. However, I'm not to sure how to start it, organise it or how I can make it pretty since I'm average in art.
How do you manage your grimoire? Do you have any tips?
Personally, i literally have a file folder COVERED in stickers that i keep important info in. It does not matter weather it is pretty or not. because after a while you wont even notice how witchy it looks, because youll be focused on the information that lies inside of it
Yeah I agree ! Thanks :)
I would recommend that you keep 2 versions of a grimoire. One version can be a draft where you explore different layouts for different entry types. Then a second that is an "official" grimoire where you transfer your final products from your draft.
I find that this system is especially helpful when creating sigils (since I am not a natural artist myself). This may seem tedious. When you have entries that you are confident about, you won't need your draft grimoire. However, when you are doing things that are more rigorous/particular, having a draft version is awesome! I hope that this helps. Let me know if you end up using this way and if it is helpful :)
Wow! Good idea! Thanks a lot :)
Molly Roberts (HerSpeak) has loads of videos on exercises to start your grimoire and things to put in it. Even if you don't prescribe to her style of organization, I think she has a lot of wonderful ideas that might spark a direction for you to work in.
I think it's useful to really consider how you'd like your grimoire to work for you. Fixed vs. removable pages. Typed vs. handwritten. Inserts or flat pages. Do even want a physical book or is this something you're comfortable having in an e-file (very modern)? I think we often get caught up in the aesthetics of our grimoires and get so scared of messing it up that we don't end up with anything. There are a number of online stores that sell border print outs specifically for grimoires if you'd like something a bit prettier than plain paper.
Example of what I did & why: Because of how I wanted my grimoire to work specifically with my needs, my BoS is faux leather binder with a print of my art work on the cover. I wanted to be able to take out pages, rearrange and put in new ones with ease, but wanted the outside to look like a real book. My art is on the cover since it is a big part of my craft, but if it isn't part of yours don't push yourself to make something you aren't into. The inside pages are printed on lined paper with pretty borders, but I've hand written everything so that my intentions are imprinted into the paper.
Good luck!
Thanks for the advice, I'll check her out! And I love the binder idea :)
I've been making mine is a simple 3 rings binder (a purple one, that I decorated with some moon phase scrapbook paper) I filled the inside with clear sheet protectors, this way I can rearrange and change things as I need to. It also lets me use a different pretty scrapbook paper for each page background. I use a lot of washi tape to attach things to the pages before putting them into the protectors. In order to keep everything looking cohesive, I stick to a color palette or purple, blue, pinks, silvers, and gold.
Thanks! I also like washi tapes :) Love the color palette idea
I've been working on organizing my own BOS because i've had it for a while and I got tired of flipping through what I recorded so far to reference information LOL
So I bought a big book that I've pre-prepared where I want information to be (like a table of contents) and Im slowly working my way through it and making it pleasing to the eye (mostly cause I think it's a relaxing thing to do when I have free time, and also because I like colors and being creative!)
Stickers and markers and pinterest journaling borders/fonts will be your best friend if you go this route haha
Here's any example of one of my pages where I was working on a section for the Elements.
Wow ! It's really pretty :) Thank you
i don't really make my grimoire look pretty or organised. its fine if you want to make it an aesthetic, but don't feel pressured to do so. i find it more fun to write things how they come out. i also write about my experience with doing or using something then info. but its all up to how you feel its yours so make it look like you, if that makes any sense.
Yeah, I understand! Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
