Hi all, I’m new to the idea of actually practicing witchcraft. I’ve always been really heavily drawn to it however, and I’ve been doing a lot of research on everything recently but I’m completely lost on where to even begin. There’s so many aspects to witchcraft and I’m just curious, where did you start? Any advice?

I’ve been practicing for a while, I think the first thing I started out with was actually candle magic. Candles were easy to obtain and not very obviously witchy (half my family is Hispanic catholic so they would’ve had my head if they’d found out I was practicing witchcraft lol) so that’s what I first started using given my situation. When I picked it back up recently I started out with using tarot cards, crystals, and meditation. The tarot cards I’d had for a while and the crystals were a new addition that helped respark my interest in witchcraft. Meditation is something I’ve taken up because I’m a very stressed individual.
I’d recommend starting out with something that’s relatively easy for you to accomplish, catches your interest, and works for your situation. In the broom closet? Try candle or color magic, they’re both super simple and can be easily hidden/disguised. Out of the broom closet? Experiment with something larger, buy some crystals or perform a full moon ritual (you can find tons of spells and rituals online).
And remember, witchcraft is about using what you have. There can be pressure to buy the best tools and materials but that’s absolutely not a necessity, a stick you found that you really like and feel connected with is just as good of a wand as something purchased from a store. As you work you’ll learn what does and doesn’t work for you and your craft. I’d also suggest writing down what you try and the results in your grimoire/book of shadows, to catalogue what works or doesn’t work for you so you have that information handy.
The world of witchcraft is large and most people experienced in it will tell you to start with one thing that catches your attention, everything else will come naturally after you take that first step.
