***I wouldnt cast a spell without their permission*** A petition spell or empowering sigil would work well! Id personally go with the sigil if youre brand new and have no specific diety/ancestor/whateverYouSeeFit to send the petition spell to. Not to mention, sigils are easy to get the hang of, and allow for a lot of creativity and personal work.
Now this is a tricky one. Yes I do agree that you should ask permission and to an extent agree with what Mars says. But... but there are times when you cannot ask for permission such as if you are in the broom closet as an example. It also depends on what kind of spell you are wanting to perform. For myself I perform protection spells for my family all the time without permission, but that is all that I do without permission! I have never ever done any other spell for a family member.
My protection Spell is in simple repetitive chant form. I will write it for you as it is extremely universal and has worked amazing for me.
I am safe!I am secure! I am protected! (repeat as often as you wish but say with conviction and true belief that you are safe, secure and protected.). I then change it to
My family is safe! My family is secure! My family is protected!
I also change it to my home, our children, my husband, my job, our pets and so on. It covers all the bases and yet is completely non invasive to anyone. It does not alter their thoughts or feelings, which you never want to do without permission anyway.
Now if this person is abusive, negative and or downright horrible then do a banishing spell to quietly and unharmingly remove them from your life. If you are wanting them to find love, let it be, they need to do that on their own, or ask them if they mind if you give them a nudge by performing a general love spell for them if all they find for themselves is negative relationship. Doing spells for others is a very grey area in my opinion. Hope this helped answer your question!
I will periodically do a candle spell wherein I ask for health for my immediate family, one member at a time. I've developed a sort of chant where I repeat, "Health for my [person]" in order of oldest to youngest (which works out nicely to 4 lines), then "Health for us all, with harm to none, and as I will it, so let it be done." I'm not really casting a spell on anyone, and I'm doing it for them only in terms of my asking for something relatively basic (and a bit nebulous when I think about it) in a way where I'm almost asking for it as a favor to myself -- and I include myself only in 3rd person ("health for US all...") to not be sounding selfish. I think that kind of spell is general and gentle enough to not need specific permission or even knowledge of the spellwork on the part of those being referenced in the spell -- it's really a slightly formalized version of the kind of good wishes most people have for those whom they love & care about.
I have wondered this. I know when praying for someone it's totally fine but when it came to maybe a candle spell or such I was unsure. Thanks for asking and sharing because I was going to ask as well.
Praying is a wonderful thing but it is also a grey area and not fine for everyone. We have a very Christian religious person in our community who does manicures and pedicures and she loves to pray for the person who she is working on. Now she does always ask for permission and most say sure/yes, but there are a small few that tell her no I don’t want you praying for me. So even prayer is such an individual thing and not everyone is ok with it. But... again if you are praying for general things such as safety, good health, happy life then in my opinion no need for permission, but if praying for a very specific thing then yes permission should still be asked. And I only mention this because I have seen people specifically say “No I don’t want you praying for me“. Which to me is funny because the person being prayed for does not have to do or say anything, the one doing the praying is doing the work of sending out vibes to the universe. But people are funny when prayer is involved as it is most referred towards religion, and religion is always a touchy subject.
Have a great night!
