Hello all!
I am a baby baby witch, who has tried her best to dive in feet first. However there is one snag I keep hitting that keeps making me very insecure, and I thought to ask for advice. I know a decent chunk about magick is visualization and meditation. Intent to the point of mental realization. However, I have aphantasia, which is a fancy word for my mind's eye is blank. For example, when I close my eyes and try to picture my husband's face I can almost force myself to imagine it, but mostly its just worded descriptions that I have memorized to try and reconstruct it, but as soon as I stop telling myself what it should be it fades away to black. I kind of get lines and shapes but that is it. There is no color, no real vibrancy. Here's a video on it if you want more information: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arc1fdoMi2Y Anyways, I was wondering if any other witches or wiccans have this as well and was able to overcome their aphantasia so that it doesn't hinder their practices. Or if any of you have any ideas on alternatives. Thank you so much for your time!
I don't know if I "officially" have aphantasia, but I've never been able to visualize very well. I occasionally get flashes of inner sight, but they are usually about things that have nothing to do with me or my Magikal work. (I seem to have an ability to "see" strangers getting out of cars somewhere, for whatever that's worth, lol.) When I try to call up a mental picture of something, it's blurry and fuzzy and dissolves almost immediately. So I rely on feelings. When I pray to my gods or do spells, I concentrate on the way I feel about what I want to happen, on how I feel about myself asking for it, how I feel about the Powers I am petitioning. It works well for me. I hope this helps!
Thats perfect! Thank you so much, for sharing your story and advice! I will totally focus on instinct more than visualizing :) thank you! Also, from my totally doctoral and legit point of view *cough cough sarcasm*, I think you may be in the same boat as me :) welcome to the aphantasic team!
@TLC I'm glad it was helpful. Gee, I never thought of myself as a team player, lol.
