It can go anywhere you want it to go :)) I have mine on a pretty tray on the floor, some people have it on little tables or desks. And what I did when I got started is I went to some of my favorite thrift stores and antique stores and looked around for candles, candle holders, little ceramic bowls. I also have some witchy artwork on it and some rocks and crystals and acorns I've collected. I also have my small glass bottle of moonwater there as well. Something I love to have Incorporated in my alter are the four elements. I have some salt in a ceramic little bowl to represent Earth, moonwater (for water), Candles for fire (be careful not to have anything flammable around them
though and keep an eye on them :} ) and burning incense for air.
But you can incorporate anything and everything you feel compelled to! No two alters are the same.
I have developed this philosophy, your alter is your point of concentration of energy. so when considering its design if one is even required for what your doing at the time or placing something there consider how it can help to achieve maximum focus apon the activity you are performing, excess clutter that has no effect just dilutes the focus you are trying to create. looking for suggestions on what to look into is a good thing but the only true answer is in your head, any craft you endeavor apon is highly subjective and the more personal you make it the more you will get out of it
The advice that I give others is do what you feel or what you're drawn to. If a particular Crystal or stone is drawn to you or your drawn to it then add it to your altar. Your altar does not have to be anything fancy, too big or too small, hidden or in the open, or any combination of the above. My altar started out as a small glass end table from a picnic set until one day I saw a beautiful round table sitting next to a dumpster and was drawn to it. It has a beautiful inlay on the top and a shelf below for my witchy supplies! That instantly came home with me, got polished up, and it is now my altar. I can feel the energy from it and it is powerful to me.
Hello fellow beginner! I don't have a lot of space in my room so what I did was put up a shelf and cover it in some cloth. The four elements are really good to have, but just remember to set it up how ever you want it to be as long as you feel empowered to do so! Just remember you don't need a whole bunch, just whatever tool make you comfortable.
